Location: Cheaper By The Minute – Spokane Valley & North Division
Job Type: Full-Time (38–40 hours per week)
Pay: $19.00–$20.00 per hour (adjust as needed)
Schedule: 9:45 AM–6:15 PM, weekend availability required

About the Role

Cheaper By The Minute is seeking a motivated and dependable Retail Assistant Manager to help lead daily store operations across both of our locations. This role partners closely with the Store Manager to ensure exceptional customer service, efficient operations, and a positive team culture.

The Retail Assistant Manager is responsible for coaching employees, maintaining high merchandising and operational standards, supporting inventory management, and helping drive overall store performance. This position also provides leadership in the Store Manager's absence and includes occasional U-Haul responsibilities at our North Division location.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation

  • Ability to work at both store locations as business needs require

  • Weekend availability required

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and remain on your feet for extended periods

  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors as needed

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Previous retail leadership or supervisory experience preferred

  • Customer service experience required

  • Ability to coach and develop employees

  • Willingness to complete paid U-Haul certification training

Responsibilities

Leadership & Store Operations

  • Support the Store Manager in overseeing daily store operations

  • Open and close the store independently

  • Lead, coach, and motivate team members throughout each shift

  • Delegate tasks and ensure daily priorities are completed efficiently

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new employees

  • Provide coaching and performance feedback to team members

  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and customer-focused store environment

  • Step into the Store Manager role when needed

Customer Service & Sales

  • Deliver outstanding customer service and resolve customer concerns

  • Lead by example in creating a positive shopping experience

  • Operate the register and ensure accurate cash handling procedures

  • Assist customers with product recommendations and purchases

  • Support sales initiatives and help improve store performance

Merchandising & Inventory

  • Maintain merchandising standards throughout the store

  • Assist with pricing, stocking, receiving, and inventory management

  • Ensure products are displayed according to company standards

  • Monitor inventory accuracy and assist with cycle counts

  • Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency and presentation

U-Haul Responsibilities (North Division Location Only)

  • Assist customers with U-Haul reservations, rentals, and returns

  • Complete vehicle inspections before and after rentals

  • Perform routine lot checks and maintain a clean rental area

  • Stage and prepare trucks and trailers for customers

  • Complete paid U-Haul certification training and follow company procedures
